These Breakfast melts are super quick to make and absolutely delicious, cheap to make too!
For 2 big or 4 small slices, you will need:
- A pack of ready rolled puff pastry
- A can of Heinz baked beans
- 2 sausages
- 20 gr of grated mature cheddar cheese
- 1 small egg, beaten
- Salt & pepper
How to do it
Start by slicing the sausages and frying them in a hot pan. Remember the melts are going in the oven for 20 minutes so don’t overcook them. Leave aside to cool.
Now roll the pastry and divide it in 4 or 8 same size squares, depending on how many melts you are making. Leave about half a cm on each side to seal the melts, I “drew” them on the pastry not to forget!
It’s time to stuff your pastry slices. Start with the sliced sausages, then cold beans -don’t add too much of the tomato sauce- and a handful of grated cheese on top. Season with freshly ground pepper.
Time to seal the pockets so beat an egg and with your finger or a brush, cover the edges with the wash. Take one of the pastry squares and attach it to the bottom starting from the right and making sure the filling is tight with not too much air left inside. Tidy the edges by cutting a couple of millimitres off the sides, then make a nice patern with a fork and open some small slits on top to let the steam scape while in the oven. Brush egg wash lightly over the top and place in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees (or 200 in a non-fan oven) for 20 minutes or until the parcels have a gorgeous golden colour.
